JAVAPELLA
an evening of a cappella music in a  casual, cozy, comfortable atmosphere.

Hosted by Vocal Magic and the Pacific Jazz Choir singing old favorites, some new tunes, and a preview of holiday music.

Javapella is a monthly performance opportunity for small vocal ensembles, and promotes a cappella music.  All styles are invited to participate (doo-wop, vocal jazz, barbershop, etc).  Groups perform in rotation on stage (sound equipment provided).  Please call to r.s.v.p. if your group would like to perform.

MASTERS OF HARMONY

 

On November 24, 2007 , the Masters of Harmony, six time international championship chorus, under the direction of Mark Hale, will present a spectacular program of holiday music at the Carpenter Center for the Performing Arts.  The theater is located on the campus of California State University-Long Beach .  6200 Atherton Street . In addition to the Masters of Harmony, you will be delighted by a performance by the Les Weiser band, and the debut of the Master's newest chapter quartet, Masterpiece.  Masterpiece is comprised of four gold medalists!

Two performances. 2:00 PM and 8:00 pm .  All seats are only $30.00.

A new, big group, big on horn sections, like Tower of Power, Earth, Wind and Fire,Sly and the Family Stone, also anything with big instrumental sound, so we will do some progressive rock, and other styles as well. The group will grow to about 20 members but will start with ten. Arrangements have a huge variety of voice partsas well as multiple vocal percussion parts; we're big on rhythm. Established vocal jazz ensemble is currently auditioning singers and has openings for soprano, alto, tenor, bass.  Desired attributes include the ability to learn music quickly, blend well with other voices, and have an enthusiastic, pleasant stage presence.  Must committ to one or two rehearsals per week in the north Orange County area, and at a minimum of one performance per month.

Enter the Boyz II Men/CBS Early Show A Cappella Contest!
If your a cappella group has three to six members, the CBS Early Show and Boyz II Men want to hear from you!  They've organized an a cappella video contest. The details are here: CBSNEWS.COM
Highlights:

1) Five finalists will appear on the CBS Early Show in December, and  one winner will be flown to New York to sing just before Christmas!
2) They will accept videos (uploaded or mailed) from now through Monday Nov. 19.
3) They don't want pro groups on a record label, but pretty much  everyone else is welcome to submit -- the more "amateur" your status, the better
4) They want diversity, so any style is welcome
5) They especially want young singers, but everyone has to be at  least 18 years old.
6) The video must be recorded live – no lip syncing to a CD track.
7) There is no restriction on cover songs for the contest - sing your best material.

So let's show the media how much a cappella is going on, and get famous in the process!
